Glenwood Wilderness is a 150-acre nature preserve located at 150 Glenwood Ln in Birmingham, Alabama. The preserve is owned and managed by the Freshwater Land Trust and is open to the public for hiking, birdwatching, and nature viewing. The preserve features a variety of habitats, including forests, wetlands, and streams. There are over five miles of hiking trails that wind through the preserve, offering visitors the opportunity to see a diverse array of plants and wildlife. One of the main attractions at Glenwood Wilderness is the Cahaba Lily Boardwalk, which leads visitors through a wetland area where the rare Cahaba lily can be seen blooming in late spring and early summer. In addition to the natural beauty of the preserve, there are also several historic structures on the property, including an old barn and a log cabin, which provide a glimpse into the area’s past. Glenwood Wilderness is open year-round and admission is free. Visitors are asked to follow Leave No Trace principles and to respect the plants and animals that call the preserve home. Guided tours and educational programs are also available upon request.
