Christopher Columbus High School, located at 925 Astor Avenue in the Bronx, New York, was a public high school established in 1938. It traditionally served students from grades 9 through 12 and was known for its diverse student body and wide range of academic and extracurricular programs. Over the years, the school offered various Advanced Placement courses and had a variety of sports teams and clubs that catered to different interests. In response to educational reforms and declining enrollment, the city’s Department of Education decided to phase out Christopher Columbus High School starting in the early 2010s. The school officially closed in 2014, and its building now houses several smaller school programs and academies under the city’s initiative to create smaller, more specialized learning environments. The building remains a landmark in the Bronx, and alumni from the original high school often hold reunions and events to maintain the spirit and community of the former Christopher Columbus High School.
